The clutch system in a manual transmission system allows the engine to be disconnected from the transmission in order to change gear, pull away from standstill and when stopping. The clutch disc is subject to wear and may sometimes need to be replaced. Other parts of the assembly can also wear, the clutch cover/pressure plate can become stiff to operate and Dual-Mass Flywheels can cause excessive vibration. The gearbox is required to be removed to replace these components.
